At an altitude of 4090 meters (over 13 thousand feet) above the sea level, Potosi is one of the highest cities in the world and one of the most historically rich cities in Bolivia. The city lies at the foot of “Cerro Rico” -a Mountain popularly conceived as being “made of” silver, having been the major supply of silver for Spain during the period of the New World Spanish Empire.

In 1987, Potosi was declared by UNESCO a World Heritage site: the city has in fact stayed intact throughout the centuries, not only in its architecture, but also in the presence of its original cultures and ethnicities.

OVERVIEW

ITINERARY

The tour starts either at 9am or 2:00pm depending on your preference. We will then head off to discover the amazing wonders offered by this unique colonial city, visiting its most iconic sites: the gothic Cathedral, historic streets such as Sucre and Nogales, and the Plaza 10 de noviembre. We will then visit the beautiful San Francisco Church, Arco de Cobija, Santa Teresa and the Central Market. During the day we will also enter one of the city’s museums, to choose between San Francisco, Santa Teresa or Casa de la Moneda, one of the most outstanding civil buildings in Latin America preserving important colonial archive. We will then finish the day visiting San Lorenzo.

No, they are open everyday but monday.


Is it possible to enter to the famous "Cerro Rico" mountain during the mine tour?

No, in the city tour is not included this activity, the city tour is focus on cultural activities. We offer to you a half day visit to one mine in the famous "Cerro Rico" where you will have the opportunity to visit this mountain considered the biggest source of silver in the world.


Could the tour be modified during winter season?

Depending on the climate conditions, during winter season (from June to August) there would be a possibility of snowing in Potosi city.
