This unique full day tour combines two of Bolivia’s most visited touristic attractions: Mount Chacaltaya and the spectacular Moon Valley.
Chacaltaya is a mountain of the Cordillera Real, in the Bolivian Andes. Once historically known for being the world’s highest ski resort, this spectacular mountain rests over 5420 meters (17785 feet) above sea level. Its location offers a spectacular view of the Cordillera Real, Lake Titikaka and the cities of El Alto and La Paz.
The Moon Valley is a mesmerizing maze of canyons and giant spires composed of clay and sandstone; the formations were created by the persistent erosion caused by the area’s strong winds and rains. What now remains is a serene setting full of wonder and intrigue.
ITINERARY
Our guide will pick you up directly from your accommodation from La Paz city center; travelers staying outside the center will be given a reference location and time for pick-up. From La Paz we will take a 2 hour drive passing by El Alto City and finally reaching the base camp of the Chacaltaya Mountain.. Once arrived at the base camp, we will take a 30 minute walk to the summit, going up 200 meters. Once at the top of the mountain, we will be able to take incredible pictures of the landscape and enjoy the amazing views this site offers.
After this incredible adventure on the top of the world, we will be driven to the Moon Valley, about 10km south from downtown La Paz. The Moon Valley is located at a lower altitude than the center of the La Paz City, which makes the temperature warmer and the walk easier for our passengers.
At the end of the day, we will take our transportation back to La Paz: the tour will finish at San Francisco square (in the city center) at approximately 5pm.
