The Lake Titikaka is perhaps the most magical and popular destination in Bolivia. Better known as Sacred Lake, it is one of the most important tourist attractions in the country as well as the highest navigable lake in the world at 3810 meters above the sea level.

Among the secrets and pearls of the lake is the Sun Island, a destination of great natural beauty. Its terraces of crops and blue lake in the background, along with its ancient ruins and archaic traditions create a magical atmosphere incomparable to any other place in the world.

OVERVIEW

ITINERARY

The tour begins in La Paz, where you will be picked up by private transportation and head to Sampaya. During the journey, we will border Lake Titikaka and will be able to enjoy a unique view of the Cordillera Real. Once in the village, we will take a walk through its most iconic sites and learn about its community’s unique history and traditions. In the evening, we will enjoy a typical Andean dinner and enjoy the view of the starry sky over the Lake.

In the morning, we will take a short walk to the pier, where a boat will take us to the Moon Island. Here we will be able to learn about the community’s organization system and understand the importance of the female figure in the ancestral cultures while walking through the “Warmi Thakhi”, the path of women. We will then arrive at the Temple of the Virgins “Iñac Uyu”, all led by local guides. Afterwards we will observe a typical craft show while interacting with the locals and learning about their community. At the end of this unforgettable experience, we will head back to Sampaya, where we will take our transportation back to the city of La Paz.

What are the cultural differences between Sun Island and Moon Island?

Sun Island and Moon Island are considered sacred places for the Inca world. Sun Island is, according to their legends, the birth place for this civilization. In this place father sun Viracocha gave life to the first humans, Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo. The moon island during the apogee of the empire, was an important ceremonial center where only the Inca's princesses used to leave, According to some researches, says this island was for human sacrifices other ones says was the place where the Inca emperor used to seek for wife.


Is it included in the tour any visit to Peru?

No, it is not. The toru is only performed into bolivian territory.
