Tiwanaku is a remarkable pre-Columbian archaeological site that has a significant importance in the understanding of the Inca Empire. It is located 72km (44 miles) west of La Paz, near the southeastern shore of Lake Titikaka.
Tiwanaku was the center of the Tiwanaku civilization, a pre-Inca culture that based its economy on agriculture, architecture and livestock. For approximately five hundred years, the Tiwanaku Empire grew from a small settlement focused on growing crops and other products into a thriving ritual and administrative capital of a major political state.
Today we will have the opportunity to visit this incredible archaeological site, accompanied by a local guide who will take us through history sharing his knowledge and answering all our questions.
ITINERARY
"The tour will start in La Paz: depending on your location, we can pick you up directly from your accommodation or meet you in a reference place in the center. From there we will be transferred to the town of Tiwanaku: the drive lasts approximately 2 hours. We will then enter the archaeological site and start the visit through its ruins and museum. We will have then a small break for lunch before continuing our visit: travelers may choose to bring their own food or eat at a local restaurant.
We will then make our way back to La Paz: the tour ends in the center of La Paz at approx. 5pm.
